Applied Writing

An Abandoned Factory in Bureå

The purpose of this piece was to provide an experiential representation of a certain setting for the reader. My setting was an abandoned factory in a little village in Sweden that I visit every year. Using this experience, I was able to provide a detailed account of the factory using the five senses, and I even included a fictional twist at the end to surprise the reader. This piece was used for my revision listed below.

Theory, History , and Research in Writing

A Personal Narrative of the Columbine Community

The goal of this assignment was to construct a cultural narrative that speaks to anthropological themes. I chose to write on a culture I have resided in my entire life--the community of Columbine High School. I delve in to my experiences growing up in the community, and then go on to explain why the culture of Columbine is so unique.

Writing in a Psychology Major

The Influence of Shared Activities in Relationships

As a psychology major, I had the opportunity to conduct a study with two other individuals in Couples Therapy class. We focused our research on how the activities done as a couple influence their relationship. An online survey was administered to friends and family--with the methods and results detailed in the linked document.

Theories of Writing

The Evolution of Writing

This paper is easily my least favorite out of those displayed on this page give its less personal touch. I was required to define my own theory of writing while using the theories and ideas provided in readings to defend my own. My theory was that online literacy is shaping the way society thinks about and conducts writing in a different manner than printed literacy.

Revision of Work

June, 2023

The revision assignment involves the complete re-working of a past writing assignment which is on display in the "Applied Writing" section above. Revising is understatement as the goal was to completely transform the genre. My creative writing piece was turned in to an Op-Ed for a newspaper.

Analysis

A Mind Map and Reflection

The mind map is a diagram displaying the connection between two past writing pieces through subconcepts that highlight the growth of my writing ability. Afterward is a reflection on the two pieces including what I learned about myself while writing them and how I would write them differently today.
